VIDE User Migration Phase I

Did you know your username has CHANGED?!?!?!
user_migration.jpg

The Office of Information Technology is currently preparing the 1st stage of the domain consolidation and implementing a new naming format. This change affects all users with the “short” username convention.
For example, the username 'jdoe' will change to 'john.doe'. This also affects your email address, which would now be john.doe@vide.vi as your primary email. Those who are married with hyphenated names, such as 'jmaria-doe' will change to 'jane.maria' by default. We decided to use the maiden name since it is less likely to change.

We are updating you today, August 29, 2016, that an important update took place this weekend to the Department of Education’s User Name and  Email System. In 2015, the Office of Instructional Technology commenced a User Mail Migration process.  The main objective of the migration is for the Department to have one primary source of communication. In order for us to move to final completion, we are tasked with moving all users/computers to an environment that supports all employees and students of the Virgin Islands Department of Education.

The Office of Instructional Technology must move all users/computers to one permanent domain (vide.vi) and to eliminate duplicate name(s) or conflicts, all email addresses must be changed under this consolidated environment. Please visit the Internal Address Book (Address Book VIDE.VI  -http://addressbook.vide.vi/ ) for your name change, which will take effect this weekend, August 28-29, 2016.

Phase I

Today Monday, August 29, 2016, all users will be required to use the new login account (ex. John Doe- login - john.doe) to access their computers and other network resources. Full implementation of the user migration will affect all users this week, all old accounts will be deactivated and all users will be imposed to use their new account. This change will help move the Department to one collaborative environment for more functionality, manageability, and efficiency.  Please get familiar with the new login credentials. It is imperative for users to be knowledgeable of their new login credentials because, as the transition is complete, users will be required to use the new credentials.  Thanks to each and every one for your support and cooperation as we improve communication within the Virgin Islands Department of Education.

Phase II

September 3-5, 2016,  all computer accounts will be moved to the new k12 domain to fully consolidate all computers. This process will force all users to install a small application to their computers so it may be correctly moved to the new k12 domain. Please allow the process to be completed in its entirety and/or until the computer reaches to the login screen. The computer may restart several times to complete the computer migration process, so please be patient as the program runs as needed. Then you will be able to sign into the computer as  you normally do. Do keep in mind that you will be forced eventually to use your new email account credentials after the full computer migration process is about 70% completed. Do not be concerned as to any loss of data because this migration will not affect ANY of your data in any way. If you do experience any issue(s), please submit a ticket at helpdesk@vide.vi or http://helpdesk.vide.vi  and a technician will assist you.
