POSITION: Storeroom Helper

DESCRIPTION

The employee in this position receives instruction from the store manager and works closely with the manager in receiving, storing, and distributing inventory and equipment as well as maintaining records. Work is reviewed for efficiency and effectiveness by the supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

  • Assists with acquisition, distribution and storage of all office and school supplies;
  • Assists with organizing and distributing supplies;
  • Assists with maintaining an electronic or manual inventory of all supplies pickups and drop off;
  • Picks up/Drops off materials to schools and activity centers according to the schedule;
  • Assist callers with inquiries about merchandise and services;
  • Use courtesy response to telephone and customer inquiries;
  • Assist with receiving and inspecting supplies, equipment and other merchandise;
  • Assist with the proper storage of all merchandise;
  • Performs other related work or duties as required.

FACTOR I: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of storekeeping methods and practices, accurately counting items/supplies, picking up orders, packing required items/supplies and delivery process;
  • Knowledge of warehousing and storage requirements involved in stocking a variety of materials;
  • Knowledge of warehouse supplies receiving and storage;
  • Knowledge of elementary record keeping practices and methods;
  • Ability to read, understand and clear oral or written instructions, shipping orders, department paperwork, and safety warning labels;
  • Ability to inspect merchandise and other supplies to as certain proper conditions upon receipt;
  • Ability to keep routine receipt, issuance and stock records, and to make mathematical calculations;
  • Ability to listen to others and appropriately act on information provided;
  • Ability to perform repetitive or short-cycle work;
  • Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division calculations;
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate department tools including but not limited to: paper-packaging dispenser machine, tape dispenser, computer, keyboard and mouse;
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks according to requirements;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure or deadlines;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Ability to act always in a courteous and professional manner.

FACTOR II: SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

  • Works under the direct supervision of the storeroom manager;
  • Work is controlled by routine review and reporting to or consultation with supervisor;
  • Instruction is provided in new situations, methods, procedures that are not clearly related to existing tasks and duties.

FACTOR III: GUIDELINES

  • Federal safety laws and departmental policies, guidelines and procedures must be followed.

FACTOR IV: COMPLEXITY

  • The employee must exercise attention to detail and is responsible for the completing assignments within pre-set timelines.

FACTOR V: SCOPE AND EFFECT

  • Responsible for the completion of agency objectives by supporting, and performing routine work activities.
  • Errors at this level will have major repercussions that will be counterproductive to efficient and timely distribution of supplies and are easily detected by routine inspection.

FACTOR VI, VII: PERSONAL CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS

  • Requires personal contact with fellow employees, supervisors, administrators, and work unit.
  • Purpose of contacts is to obtain, clarify, or give facts or information to aid in the production of accomplishing objectives and daily tasks.

FACTOR VIII: PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This employee must be able to:

  • Stand for long periods with intermittent walking;
  • Bend, lift and/or climb;
  • Handle cumbersome awkwardly shaped boxes and move hand together with arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects;
  • Exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects;
  • Use the abdominal and lower back muscles repeatedly or continuously over time;
  • Assist in lifting and/or moving up to 70 pounds.

FACTOR IX: WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Requires performing regular job functions in an adverse working environment containing a combination of disagreeable elements which impact significantly upon the employee's capacity for completing work assignments.
    • Some goods may require special condition handling and storage, which may affect the working environment.
    • Some of the loading and unloading can be outdoors in all weathers.
  • Workers normally wear protective clothing like safety shoes.
  • Workers are required to adhere to standard safety regulations to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED) and one year experience related to the performance of warehouse assignments, maintenance, repairs and equipment operation; and
  • A valid Virgin Islands Driver’s License.
